৫ আগস্ট আর ২১ মার্চের পার্সপেক্টিভ এক না! আগস্টে ১৫ বছরের এক মনস্টারকে সরিয়ে দিয়েছিল বিক্ষুব্ধ ছাত্র-জনতা। সংক্ষুব্ধদের মধ্যে আওয়ামী লীগের লোকও ছিল। যারা হাসিনা শাসনের ডড় ভিক্টিম ছিল।
সেদিন জীবনের ঝুঁকি নিয়েও শেখ হাসিনার রক্তচক্ষু উপেক্ষা করতে পেরেছিলেন আজকের আর্মি চিফ। ওসব আত্মীয়-ফাত্মীয়ের গল্প রাষ্ট্র ক্ষমতায় টেকে না। সেদিনের ওই নারকীয় দিনে সেনাবাহিনী ছাত্র-জনতার বিজয়ের নিষ্ঠ পার্ট ছিল। এ কারণে সেনাবাহিনী জিতে গিয়েছিল। এখন শান্তিপূর্ণ অবস্থায় সেনাবাহিনী হারলে দেশের সার্বভৌমত্ব টিকবে? বাইরে বসে অনেক কিছু বলা যায়। দেশে ফিরেন, ক্ষমতায় বসেন; দেখেন এই পথ কতটা পিচ্ছিল, কতটা কন্টকাকীর্ন! সামান্য পা হড়কে গেলেই সোজা পতন।
সেনাপ্রধান জেনারেল ওয়াকার-উজ-জামান পড়েছেন উভয় সংকটে। শেখ হাসিনার আওয়ামী লীগ তাঁকে দুই চোখে দেখতে পারে না। বিশ্বাসঘাতক অভিধায় অভিষিক্ত করে। কারণ তাদের অবৈধ ক্ষমতাকে রক্ষা করে দিতে পারেন নাই আর্মি প্রধান।
অপরদিকে জুলাই আন্দোলনে ছাত্র-জনতার পক্ষে থাকলেও হাসনাত-সারজিস তথা হালের জাতীয় নাগরিক পার্টি (NCP) সেনাপ্রধানকে বিশ্বাস করে না, কারণ তিনি শেখ হাসিনার আত্মীয়।
অন্যদিকে জনতার মধ্যে উচ্ছৃঙ্খলতা ছড়িয়ে দিতে অগ্রদূতের ভূমিকা যারা পালন করছেন সেই ইউটিউব ইনফ্লুয়েন্সাররা সেনাপ্রধানের প্রতি বিদ্বেষ পোষণ করেন স্বভাবগতভাবেই। তাদের গোপন রাজনৈতিক স্বার্থে তারা প্রকাশ্যে কাউকেই মিত্র পক্ষে রাখে না। অতএব সেনাপ্রধানসহ সকল জেনারেলরাই তাদের চক্ষুশূল।
ইতিহাসের পাঠকমাত্রই জানেন, আওরঙ্গজেব তার অসুস্থ পিতা মোগল সম্রাট শাহজাহানকে সিংহাসনচ্যুত করে আগ্রা দুর্গে বন্দী করে রেখেছিলেন। ওই আখ্যানকে কেন্দ্র করে দ্বিজেন্দ্রলাল রায় তাঁর বিখ্যাত নাটক সাজাহান লিখেছেন। এটা উল্লেখ করবার অর্থ হলো, ক্ষমতা পিতাপুত্রই মানে না। সেখানে ফুফাতো বোনের জামাইকে কেইবা কেয়ার করে!
মোটামুটি দেখা যাচ্ছে, এনসিপি এবং সেনাবাহিনী এখন মুখোমুখি অবস্থানে। নিশ্চয়ই সেনাবাহিনী সহসাই তাদের বিবৃতি দেবে। আদারওয়াইজ এনসিপির হাসনাতদের অভিযোগ হালে পানি পাবে। হাসনাত আব্দুল্লাহ্ সাহস দেখিয়েছেন। সেনাবাহিনীর উচিত বিষয়টি দ্রুত পরিষ্কার করা।
প্রশ্ন হলো সেনাপ্রধানকে যদি সরে যেতে হয়,
সেটি রাষ্ট্রীয় নিয়মতান্ত্রিকভাবেই চিফ এডভাইজার কিংবা রাষ্ট্রপতি এক কলমের খোচাতেই করতে পারেন। তাহলে জুম্মা নামাজের পরে মুসুল্লিদেরকে উদ্দীপ্ত করবার অর্থ কী? এই রাজনীতি কি দেশ থেকে উদ্ভূত নাকি বড় বিদেশি শক্তির হাত আছে? দেশের প্যাটার্ন হলে গণমানুষকে সাফার করতে হবে। আর যদি মুরুব্বি দেশের ইচ্ছানুসারে হয়, তবে আমাদের প্রাণের বাংলাদেশকে আরো বড় কিছু ত্যাগ স্বীকারের জন্য প্রস্তুত থাকতে হবে।
তবে সেনাবাহিনী নতুন উস্কানির কাছে এখনি হেরে পিছু হটবে এমনটা মনে হয় না। যে সেনাবাহিনী ৫ আগস্টের মতো ক্রুসিয়াল দিন পাড়ি দিয়ে এসেছে তাদের কাছে ২১ মার্চ হয়ত বড় ব্যাপার না। দেখা যাক, কোথাকার জল কোথায় গিয়ে গড়ায়।

Will the Army Chief step down?
The perspectives of August 5 and March 21 are not the same! In August, an enraged student-public uprising removed a 15-year-old monster. Even members of the Awami League were among the agitated—those who had fallen victim to Hasina’s regime.
On that day, despite the risk to his life, today’s Army Chief dared to defy Sheikh Hasina’s wrath. Stories of kinship don’t hold up in state power. On that dreadful day, the army was a dedicated part of the students' and people's victory. That’s why the military won. Now, if the army loses in a peaceful situation, will the country’s sovereignty survive? It’s easy to comment from afar. Return to the country, take power, and see for yourself how slippery and thorny this path is! A single misstep leads straight to downfall.
Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman finds himself in a dilemma. Sheikh Hasina's Awami League despises him, branding him a traitor because he failed to safeguard their illegitimate hold on power.
On the other hand, despite siding with the people in the July Movement, Hasnat-Sarjis and the National Citizen Party (NCP) of today do not trust him either, as he is a relative of Sheikh Hasina.
Meanwhile, YouTube influencers, who play a vanguard role in spreading chaos among the masses, harbor a natural hostility toward the army chief. For their hidden political interests, they refuse to publicly align with anyone as an ally. Therefore, the army chief, along with all other generals, remains their sworn enemy.
Anyone who has studied history knows that Aurangzeb dethroned his ailing father, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, and imprisoned him in Agra Fort. Based on this story, Dwijendralal Roy wrote his famous play Shah Jahan. The reason for mentioning this is simple—power does not acknowledge even the bond between father and son. So why would anyone care about a cousin’s husband?
It appears that the NCP and the military are now at odds. The army will surely issue a statement soon; otherwise, the allegations from NCP’s Hasnat and his allies will gain traction. Hasnat Abdullah has shown courage. The army should clarify the matter quickly.
The question is, if the Army Chief has to step down, the Chief Adviser or the President can do so with a single stroke of the pen as per state protocol. Then what is the purpose of inciting worshippers after the Jumma prayer? Is this politics homegrown, or is there a foreign power at play? If it’s an internal pattern, the masses will suffer. But if it follows the will of a foreign patron, then our beloved Bangladesh must brace for even greater sacrifices.
However, it doesn’t seem likely that the army will retreat so easily before this new provocation. The military that endured a crucial day like August 5 might not see March 21 as a big deal. Let’s see where the tide ultimately takes us.
