La Nina has arrived in India

December 11, 2024

Madhab Debnath

La Nina has arrived in India and brought much destruction. The scientists of the Indian Meteorological Department have already warned that the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 are going to be extremely cold. The meteorological department is protecting a harsh winter ahead and there are forecasts of the Nina effect having a big impact. Because the temperature is going to fall abnormally and to avoid this, the government has already warned the citizens about this. Is the La Nina effect having an impact meaning?

Shift in wind circulation patterns, leading to more rains and snow plows, Nina effects La Nina effects But the strange thing is that if you notice, the cold that we are being warned about, no special sign of that cold is visible in India so far. The exact opposite is being seen, because historically speaking, the months of October and November of this year were the hottest. This year's October was the hottest since 1901 and November was the hottest November in North India. So will La Nina bring that destruction this year?

About which scientists are warning us. If you look at the weather in India right now, the temperature of North Indian states like Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana has suddenly dropped in the last two days. On the other hand, in the South, a red alert was issued in states around Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Pondicherry, and even the Bay of Bengal. Due to the fear of a storm named Fengal, which had already crossed the border of Tamil Nadu at 2:00 pm on Sunday. It means that India has been divided into two parts. On the one hand, there are hardcore temperature fluctuations in North India, while on the other hand, South India is drowning due to rain and floods. But it doesn't stop here, if we zoom a little into the other corner of the world, then the opposite situation is going on there. South America is burning. According to the reports, this is happening for the first time in history that crores of acres of forests, just imagine, crores of acres of forests are in the grip of fire, which also includes the Amazon rainforest. This picture is of Sao Paulo city of Brazil. What has happened due to the forest fires?

Sao Paulo. Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and many other South American countries are burning. But the biggest reason behind these fires is drought i.e. famine. If we talk about North America, the situation there is also not very good. Very terrible bushfires are happening around Los Angeles and Connecticut, which have so far burnt 100 acres of land to ashes. California has been pushed into darkness by a dangerous storm like a bomb cyclone. Power outages are happening everywhere and in some places there are even fatalities. Now understand carefully. These incidents are seen happening at the same time in two different corners of the world. But do you know that all these incidents are connected? There is only one connection behind all these incidents, the La Niña effect, and La Niña has arrived. So what is this? Why is this being talked about everywhere? What connection can this have with all these seemingly unconnected events?

And what devastation is this going to bring to India in the future?

Let's break down this complicated and difficult-to-understand concept in simple words and find answers to these questions. When we step at a time, we start with what exactly is. So, friends, if I tell you in very simple language, then La Niña is such a change in nature in which heavy rains and floods start occurring in countries on one side of a specific ocean, and drought starts occurring in countries on the opposite side. That is, opposite events start occurring simultaneously in countries on the opposite side of the Pacific Ocean. Destructive events like bomb cyclones and fires, which are happening in America right now, are just a by-product of this. You know, from 1950 to 2023, we have had to face La Niña 25 times in total and seven times out of them, the situation had become so bad that the crops of the whole of India were destroyed due to floods and cold and lakhs of people died due to starvation. The continuous rain for four days destroyed the crops of the farmers and the hailstorm destroyed the farming. One farmer died in the field seeing his crop getting destroyed and this sequence has been going on till now in the form of a repetitive cycle. If seen mathematically, an event can last for about one to one and a half years. But in 1973, the earth scientist of the World Meteorological Organization observed something strange. The rarest of the rare A triplets are usually not active for more than one and a half years, but 45 years ago in 1973, such a strange event was seen which was extremely rare. One such. It lasted for twice the duration i.e. literally for three years and that is why it was called Triple Dip La Niña interestingly the La Niña that lasted from 2020 to 2023 was the latest version of this Triple Dip La Niña. But NOAA i.e. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and World Meteorological Organization were confused as to how this happened suddenly, no one was able to explain how it happened. But due to this, there were heavy floods in Australia and New Zealand, devastation occurred and South America started burning. Due to Covid-19, this news was suppressed somewhere. But Triple Dip La Niña took many lives and caused destruction worth billions of dollars and that is why it has also become a fear for many people. Today we are not able to see the way forward clearly. Will this La Niña turn out to be more dangerous than the last one? And that is why NOAA has stated that there could be danger at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. Let us understand in simple language what the whole game is.

Know. But before starting that. Let me quickly thank Udu for our today's video. If you are a budding entrepreneur, you know that we have to pay attention to many aspects of business. Watch our video. The Pacific Ocean is the largest in the world. Right, it covers one-third of the Earth's surface. Because of having such a large area, these two things, our climate, and our temperatures, have the power to strongly influence something. Now science is very simple, our earth rotates in a round shape, right, but does every part of the earth rotate at the same speed? Well, you would think that when the whole earth is rotating at one speed, then all the parts would also rotate at the same speed. Well, it is not so, those areas of the earth that are close to the center i.e. the equator, rotate faster. These compared to areas which are around the poles, I will explain with an easy example, you must have played with a top or a bumblebee in your childhood. You must have noticed that whenever you touch the center of a top rotating at a speed, you feel more force there. If you touch the top area above it with these compared to the top, then the condition of our earth is also the same. The force is more on the equator of the earth and less on the poles because the earth is wider than the center. As compared to the poles, the particles of the part of the earth that is at the center have to travel a long curved path to complete the 1360-degree rotation of the earth. As compared to the particles of that part of the earth which is at the poles, the time taken for 1360 degree rotation is the same for both areas. And that is why the rotational force is felt more towards the center. Now that we have understood that the earth is spinning faster at the center, what could be the result of this?

Well, the biggest effect is on the wind patterns. In the Northern Hemisphere, the winds blowing straight ahead, start getting deflected towards their right side and in the Southern Hemisphere, the winds blowing straight ahead, start getting deflected towards their left side. They start bending. Just because our Earth is rotating rapidly towards the right side and the more these winds blow towards the equator, the more these winds will deflect. Because the rotational speed towards the equator is the fastest. Right, this effect is called the Coriolis Effect. Now, please pause this video for a few seconds and tell me which of these two tornadoes is moving in the Northern Hemisphere and which one is in the Southern Hemisphere. Well, maybe you will say that how can the location of these moving tornadoes be told just by looking at them? But the fact is that the tornadoes that spin in the southern part of the earth spin in a clockwise motion and the tornadoes that spin in the northern hemisphere spin in the opposite anticlockwise motion. This happens because of the Coriolis effect. The black vortex in the center of the tornado is a low-pressure area and the straight winds blowing from the south towards the equator get curved towards the left side due to the rotation of the earth. Know? And around that low-pressure vortex, it keeps on spiraling in a clockwise direction in a curved manner and it exactly happens with the winds of the Northeast. It bends to its right side and then keeps on spiraling in an anticlockwise motion around the low-pressure vortex. So, this makes it clear how big an effect the rotation of our Earth has on our wind patterns. And what important thing do wind patterns determine on Earth?

Tell me, when it is hot, what do you use?

What does this AC do? It blows cold air. What do wind patterns determine on which place on Earth? What will be the temperature?

Because, if cold winds are moving from one place to another hot place, then they will cool down the temperature of that hot place and vice versa as well. When hot air travels from one part to another cold part, then it will bring heat there. So after understanding these fundamentals, let us now come back to our largest ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the one-third of the earth, where the main action of the Pacific Ocean is. As you can see, a large part of the Pacific Ocean is located in the equatorial region, around which region all these countries are present, and also the southern tip of India. Now tell me, based on whatever we have learned, what should be the direction or pattern of the winds blowing in the southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean?

Think of course from right to left, that is, from East to West to right. And that is why this is a normal natural wind pattern of the Southern Pacific areas, which we call trade winds. This name was given by the traders who used to sail from West to East in the olden times with the help of these winds. Now we have come to know that wind patterns regulate the temperature. Either by carrying cold air or hot air and hence, an important cycle is created from the temperature fluctuations and wind pattern of the Pacific which we call ENSO, whose full form is El Niño Oscillation. Oscillation means fluctuations but fluctuation means fluctuation of temperature. The ENSO cycle is the strongest year-to-year climate fluctuation cycle on Earth. Hence, understand it carefully. The complete cycle of ENSO has three phases and can last for three to seven years. Phase number one is the neutral phase, phase number two is the El Niño face and phase number three is the La Niña face. In this, the neutral phase remains alone for that much time. The faces remain combined for a long time. So let's understand how these phases are created, and what happens for a specific reason, right?

As the trade winds blow from east to west, they push the warm water from the upper surface of the ocean along with them. Due to this, hot water starts accumulating in the western regions and the water of the eastern regions starts getting cold because when the warm water of the upper layers is pushed forward, the cold water of the lower layers comes to the surface. Now depending upon the temperature of the Pacific Ocean, it decides which phase of the Enso cycle will come. If the temperature of the Pacific Ocean is close to the average, then it will be in the neutral state. If the trade winds are weak and they are not able to push the warm water towards the east, then it will be in the El Niño phase. If the trade winds are very powerful and are pushing the warm water towards the west very fast, then the Pacific Ocean will become even cooler, cooler than the average and this will be called the La Niña phase. Now pay attention, in the La Niña phase, the Pacific Ocean cools down. But all the warm water gets collected in the western regions, so what will happen with this?

This will create a pressure zone in one of these regions, a zone that will rapidly attract rain clouds towards itself and exactly on its opposite side, that is, in America. Due to these cold waters, a low-pressure zone will be created, which will drive the clouds away and cause drought. That is why La Niña brings heavy rains in Western Pacific countries like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand, while in America it creates dry and cold weather. So, now you must understand why unseasonal rains are happening in the South of India today, why storms are coming and why are they causing floods.

In 2024, India has already faced three major cyclones, from which we have still not been able to recover completely. We saw dangerous cyclones. For example, Cyclone Remal which lasted from 24 to 20 eight in Odisha killed 84 people, destroyed 2500 houses, and due to which 1,00,000 people had to be rescued and shifted. The second major cyclone was Cyclone Asana which lasted from August 25 to September 3 in Madhya Pradesh. 50 people were killed and 40,000 people were rescued. The third major cyclone was Cyclone Thana which lasted from October 24 to 25 in Odisha and West Bengal, in which the government took timely action. Due to this, there were only four casualties but 8,00,000 people were evacuated. Know that 5800 houses were destroyed and even just from late November, the Indian Meteorological Department has been warning about Cyclone Fingol. Several alerts have also been issued for southern states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, and even regions around the Bay of Bengal. At least three people have died in rain-related incidents as cyclone forces pass through South India Breaking Updates Now pouring in, a cyclonic storm will form over the southwest Bay of Bengal is just about 210 kilometers southeast of Chennai issued across several parts of Tamil Nadu A cyclone will form over the Bay of Bengal it is likely to make landfall today close to Puducherry with wind speeds up to 219 kilometers per hour We are being warned of flooding, mudslides, landslides and cloud bursts. And by the time this video goes live, many incidents will have already happened and these cyclonic and flooding events are not just limited to India. Yes, there are many other countries in the Western Pacific region like Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Similar incidents have been witnessed here as well. Indonesia has also faced many very terrible floods this time. One is the one that happened just last week on Sumatra Island. The influence of La Niña is also behind these incidents. In Indonesia, heavy flooding on Sumatra Island has left two children dead, some 20 of 1000 people have been forced to leave their homes, torrential rainfall hammers the island for days, river scores to burst their banks and sinking. Water level surging in the residential areas: According to the calculations of the scientists of the World Meteorological Organization, Indonesia will submerge by 2050 because the sea level around it is rising very fast. About 10 centimeters per year and all this is just because of La Niña. On the other hand, in the other corner of the world, La Niña is creating different problems. There is a drought in South America and it is burning and this is not an excuse at all. Look at this picture, this is a daytime picture of Sao Paulo, a city in Brazil. This situation has happened due to the smoke from forest fires. Why wouldn't it happen?

Just on the second of December, the latest update has come from them that we were wrong, the month of December is also going to be warm and probably the whole winter will also pass warm and that's it guys. The biggest concern of this video of mine and also of the climate scientists around the world is Noah, which is one of the most advanced American organizations that tracks climate and temperatures, remember?

Just 2 years ago, it missed a very rare event like triple dip La Nina. And even now if you look at the forecast, different countries have made different predictions for December and January and there are huge differences in their values. Canada venture is going to try to reputation average temperature is impressively down in the South Western with the areas that. Have a Tone Snow Versus No Snow All This Year We Are Looking At A Snowfall, and due to That Increased Southern Storm Track and Large Temperature Swings Severe Weather Outbreaks Are Unfortunately Something That are certainly going to be Dealing With This Winter IMD sometimes says that is not going to be any severe cold this year and then sometimes says that we are sorry we were wrong. The winter will be quite warm. The truth is that it has become extremely difficult to predict the weather systems today. Do you know why?

Well climate change human civilization with its modernization and industrialization is producing a lot of extra heat which is radiated into the atmosphere. This extra heat, for which we do not have any concrete calculation, is affecting the cycle of weather systems in such a way that it is becoming impossible to predict it with accuracy. Firstly, chaos theory and the butterfly effect apply to these complex weather systems. That is, a small effect can have a big counter effect. And on top of that, we are adding all this unaccounted climate change. Because of this, it is becoming very difficult to predict the weather systems. But you know what?

In my research, I noticed a very interesting pattern, so the question is whether the year 2025 will be a cold year or a hot year.

Well, just look at these two charts, on one side is the data of triple dip La Nina, and on the other side is the data of global average temperatures. Whenever a triple dip La Nina occurs, two years after its end, the global temperature has always been historically high, so speaking about the year 2025 and 25 in general, there is a good chance that the global temperature is going to remain high. Now only time will tell how high this high will be in the context of India. With that said, we have to take climate change seriously. Otherwise, it can push us into the darkness of ignorance and bring darkness like in any city.
