রমজানের পবিত্রতা শুধু আত্মসংযমে নয়, বরং সমবেদনা ও সহমর্মিতায়ও নিহিত। অথচ বাস্তবতা হচ্ছে, কোটি কোটি টাকা খরচ করে অভিজাত পাঁচ তারকা হোটেলে অসাধু ব্যবসায়ী ও রাজনৈতিক সুবিধাভোগী বিত্তশালীদের পৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় ইফতার পার্টির আয়োজন করছেন দেশের রাজনীতিবিদরা, আর একই শহরের ফুটপাতে শত শত শিশু না খেয়ে রোজা ভাঙার স্বপ্নও দেখতে পারছে না।
ধরুন, ঢাকার এক অভিজাত হোটেলের বলরুমে ঝলমলে আলোকসজ্জা, সুস্বাদু খেজুর থেকে শুরু করে বাহারি পেস্ট্রি, বিরিয়ানি, গ্রিলড মিট, এবং বিদেশি ফলের সমাহার। মাইক্রোফোন হাতে রাজনীতিবিদ বলছেন, "আমরা দেশের মানুষের জন্য নিরলস পরিশ্রম করছি।" অথচ মাত্র এক কিলোমিটার দূরেই, রেলস্টেশনের পাশে সাত বছর বয়সী রাসেলের হাতের কাঁপুনি থামছে না ক্ষুধার যন্ত্রণায়। সারাদিন কিছুই খেতে পারেনি সে, এখন ফুটপাতের ধুলোমাখা পলিথিনে মুখ গুঁজে আছে।
এরপর আসে আরও নির্মম এক বাস্তবতা— এই বিলাসবহুল ইফতার পার্টিগুলো টেলিভিশন, গণমাধ্যম ও সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় ফলাও করে প্রচার করা হয়। ক্যামেরার ফ্ল্যাশ, লাইভ টেলিকাস্ট আর সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ার পোস্টে দেখানো হয় কতটা “জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ” এই আয়োজন!
নীতির কথা বলা হয়, উন্নয়নের গল্প শোনানো হয়, কিন্তু কেউ প্রশ্ন তোলে না—এই ইফতারের খরচে কত শিশুর এক মাসের খাবার জুটতে পারতো?
অথচ পবিত্র কুরআনে আল্লাহ স্পষ্টভাবে বলেন,
“আর অপচয় করো না, নিশ্চয়ই অপচয়কারীরা শয়তানের ভাই। আর শয়তান তার রবের প্রতি খুবই অকৃতজ্ঞ।” (সূরা আল-ইসরা: ২৭)।
এই বৈপরীত্য শুধু এক দিনের দৃশ্য নয়, বরং আমাদের সমাজের চিত্র। যাদের দায়িত্ব দেশের জনগণের মৌলিক অধিকার নিশ্চিত করা, তারাই যেন দরিদ্রদের দুঃখ-কষ্ট ভুলে বিলাসিতায় মত্ত। আমাদের রাজনীতি, অর্থনীতি এবং মানবিক মূল্যবোধ নিয়ে তাই প্রশ্ন উঠতেই পারে— আমরা কাদের জন্য উন্নয়ন করছি?
রমজান যদি সংযম ও সহমর্মিতার মাস হয়, তাহলে এই বিলাসী ইফতার কি প্রকৃত অর্থেই ধর্মের মর্মবাণী বহন করে? নাকি এটি নিছকই রাজনৈতিক শোডাউন, যেখানে জনগণের কষ্ট আড়াল করে ব্যক্তিগত আভিজাত্য প্রকাশ করা হয়? সমাজের জন্য এই প্রশ্নগুলো তোলা এখন সময়ের দাবি।

The Devil’s Brother on the Upper Floor,
the Wailing of Hunger on the Pavement!
The sanctity of Ramadan lies not only in self-restraint but also in compassion and empathy. Yet, the reality is starkly different—politicians in our country are hosting lavish iftar parties in five-star hotels, spending millions of takas under the patronage of unscrupulous businessmen & politically privileged wealthy individual, while hundreds of children on the same city's sidewalks cannot even dream of breaking their fast with a morsel of food.
Imagine a grand ballroom in an elite hotel in Dhaka, adorned with dazzling lights, offering an exquisite spread—from succulent dates to colorful pastries, biryani, grilled meat, and exotic fruits. A politician takes the microphone and declares, "We are working tirelessly for the people of this country." Yet, just a kilometer away, seven-year-old Rasel, trembling from hunger, sits beside the railway station. He hasn’t eaten all day, his tiny hands shaking, his face buried in a dusty plastic sheet on the pavement.
Then comes an even harsher reality—these extravagant iftar parties are widely broadcasted on television, social media, and mainstream media. Camera flashes, live telecasts, and social media posts highlight the "grandeur" of these events!
Speeches on morality are delivered, stories of development are narrated, but no one asks—how many months’ worth of food for starving children could have been provided with the cost of one such iftar party? Yet, the Holy Quran explicitly states: "And do not be extravagant. Indeed, the extravagant are brothers of the devil, and the devil is ever ungrateful to his Lord." (Surah Al-Isra: 27).
This contrast is not just a one-day spectacle but a reflection of our society. Those responsible for ensuring the fundamental rights of the people seem to have forgotten the suffering of the poor while indulging in luxury. This raises a crucial question about our politics, economy, and moral values—who exactly is our development for?
If Ramadan is a month of restraint and compassion, then do these extravagant iftar parties truly reflect the essence of religion? Or are they merely political showcases, where the suffering of the masses is hidden beneath the veil of personal grandeur? Now, more than ever, it is time to ask these questions.
