Although it gained popularity in the UK, the popular Indian dish chicken tikka masala has Indian origins. According to legend, an Indian cook in London came up with the now-famous Chicken Tikka Masala by improvising by incorporating a creamy tomato sauce into a dry chicken tikka dish. Around the world, this fusion dish has come to represent Indian food.

Recipe:
Ingredients:

  • 500g chicken breast (marinated with yogurt, cumin, coriander, and chili powder)

  • 1 onion (chopped)

  • 2 tomatoes (pureed)

  • 1 cup cream

  • 1 tbsp garam masala

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions:

  1. Grill marinated chicken until cooked through.

  2. Sauté onions and ginger-garlic paste in butter until golden.

  3. Add pureed tomatoes and garam masala. Cook until the sauce thickens.

  4. Stir in cream and cooked chicken.

  5. Simmer for a few minutes, then serve with naan or rice.
