Report a Problem

Searching…

Something on Fiction Factory broken, misspelled, or just confusing? Tell us about it. Errata is the small desk that reads every problem report and writes back. The name comes from the correction slip a publisher tucks into a book when a misprint is found.

Errata is for problems with the website itself. To flag a story, comment or book that breaks the rules, use the Report button on that content instead (see Post Moderation).

When to use it

  • A button does nothing, or a page shows an error.
  • Text is wrong, missing, or shows up garbled.
  • A payment went through but your coins or chapter did not arrive.
  • You can't log in, or a reset email never comes.
  • Anything else that just doesn't look right.

Sending a report

You'll find Report a problem in the footer of every page. Signed-in members also have it in the Help section of the account menu.

The Report a problem link sits in the footer of every page.

Press it and a small form opens:

  1. Pick the kind of problem that fits best. If nothing does, choose Something else.
  2. Tell us what happened in a sentence or two. What you were doing and what you expected to see is plenty.
  3. Press Send.
The form: pick a kind, say what happened, press Send.

Adding a screenshot is optional, but it often saves a round of questions. PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 4 MB.

What is sent along with your note

So you never have to describe your browser or copy a web address, three things are attached automatically:

  • The page you were on (only its address, never anything after a ?)
  • Your phone or computer, such as Android · Chrome
  • Your username, if you're signed in

Press See what's sent in the form to check exactly what will go along. Screenshots are private: only you and the Fiction Factory team can see them.

After you send it

You get a ticket number. Keep it if you want to mention it later.

After you press Send, you get a ticket number.

On a phone the form opens from the bottom of the screen instead, with the same steps:

On a phone the same form rises from the bottom of the screen.

Following up: Your Desk → Problems

Every report you send is listed under Problems in your Your Desk sidebar, with the answer from the team as soon as there is one. When we reply or fix something, a note also appears in your Notifications.

Your Desk → Problems: everything you sent, and what we said back.

Each report is always in one of three states:

Status What it means
Received We have your note. Nobody has picked it up yet.
Looking into it Someone is working on it, or has written back with a question.
Fixed It's sorted. Tell us again if it comes back.

Not signed in?

You can still report a problem, for example when you can't log in. Add your email if you'd like an answer; it is used only to reply about that one report. Without an email you'll still get a ticket number, but we won't be able to write back.

Tips for a useful report

  • Say what you did, not only what went wrong: "I pressed Publish on chapter 3 and nothing happened."
  • One problem per report. Two separate problems are easier to fix as two reports.
  • Add a screenshot for anything visual.
  • Don't include passwords or payment card details. We never need them.

Limits

To keep the desk useful, you can send up to 5 reports an hour. If you hit the limit, the form tells you how long to wait.
